There is something so special about these classes & these women ❤️ Some of us have been dancing together for over 20 years! And some we’ve been lucky enough to meet just this year. Over 40 women danced on stage in our adult performance this Spring! (And one handsome fella 👏🏽) For one hour a week, we get to put down all the heavy things we’re carrying - work, kids, stress, responsibilities…the endless lists running through our heads. We turn the lights down & the music up, move our bodies, laugh until our stomachs hurt, feel strong, maybe even a little sexy, and sometimes a little ridiculous 😂 but most of all we get to just be us. Some of us never stopped dancing. Some of us came back after years (or decades!) away. Some walked through the door knowing no one and found friendships that became the real, lifelong kind. Dance isn’t about being a certain age, having a certain body, or dancing a certain way. It’s about remembering that you’re still allowed to do something simply because it makes you feel ALIVE! To perform, wear the costume, shake your thang, and take up space. To laugh, learn, and be a forever student, always learning to come back to something you once loved — or discover something you didn’t know you were missing. Adult dance has become such a gift in our lives, and we would really, really love to share it with you. Come dance with us this fall. ✨ GUEST CHOREOGRAPHER ANNOUNCEMENT! We are SO excited to announce our very first guest choreographer for Kula Dance Collective — the incredible Rosanna Karabetsos! ❤️ @therosannak is not only an insanely talented dancer, choreographer, and artist — she is also a truly wonderful human, and we could not be more excited for our Kula dancers to learn from her. Born and raised in Hartford, CT, Rosanna attended the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts before launching a professional career that has taken her from Connecticut to NYC and far beyond. Her incredibly diverse experience spans concert, commercial, entertainment, and community-based dance. Rosanna has danced for the WNBA Connecticut Sun and the NBA Brooklynettes, served as Dance Captain for traveling productions including Echoes of Sinatra and The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience, and worked as lead puppeteer and choreographer for Nightfall Hartford. Her professional credits include working with artists such as BLACKPINK at the 2022 MTV VMAs, Alyson Stoner, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, Rakim, Lion Babe, Saint Jhn, Pretty Poison, Clinton Sparks, and New Kids on the Block, among others. Her choreography credits include Alabama State University and the University of Saint Joseph. This is exactly what we dreamed of when we created Kula for our dancers. Kula Dance Collective is Nutmeg’s non-competitive youth dance company and pre-professional training program, created for dancers who want to train deeply, perform often, experience different styles and artists, and be part of something bigger than themselves; without entering the competition world. Throughout the year, our dancers will train together, perform throughout our community, work with guest artists and choreographers like Rosanna, and grow not only as dancers, but as versatile, curious, connected young artists. CALLING ALL BOYS! Hi, local families! For anyone looking for something fun (and maybe a little different!) for their boys this fall, we wanted to share our boys offerings at Nutmeg’s Dance & Theatre Co.! We have such a great crew of boys dancing at Nutmeg’s, and we’re super excited about our boys programming this year: • Beginner Boys Hip Hop (ages 5-8) — Tuesdays | 4:45 pm • Boys Tumble & Tricks (ages 6-12) — Tuesdays | 5:15 pm • Intermediate Boys Hip Hop (ages 8-14) — Tuesdays | 6:00 pm AND we are incredibly excited to welcome professional dancer Dashawn Davis to our Nutmeg’s faculty this year! 🙌 Dashawn will be teaching our Intermediate Boys Hip Hop class, and he is truly incredible. A professional dancer from Hartford, he has performed with the Connecticut Sun’s Solar Power dance team, and Hartford Yard Goats youth dance team, and performed in MJ2 - a show in tribute to Michael Jackson, played by Dashawn. He brings SO much talent, experience, and kindness with him. We feel very lucky to have him joining us! All levels are welcome. Some weeks just stay with you 🥰💛🌼 What an incredible five days with this beautiful group of dancers! We had the opportunity to offer every dancer individualized feedback, thoughtful corrections, and the time and space to reeeeally dig into their artistry. They challenged themselves, trusted the process, and the growth from Monday to Friday was honestly remarkable 🌱 It was one of those weeks that reminded us that the magic is found in deeper connections, focused training, and a room full of dancers who are willing to listen, absorb the feedback, take risks, and support one another. Magical things happen when the group is just right, and everyone feels free and safe to take those risks. We wrapped up the week with an afternoon at the Flower Bridge, celebrating all of their hard work surrounded by blooms that matched their beauty and joy. 🌸 We’re so proud of each of you. Thank you for making this week so special. Before we officially launch Kula, I wanted to share a little more about what it is, and answer some questions we’ve received! 🤎 Kula was created for dancers who are looking for a little more. A little more training, commitment, opportunities to perform, and a deeper connection to the art of dance—and to each other. It’s designed for dancers who want to continue growing beyond their weekly classes, while still being part of everything they already love at Nutmeg’s. Company members continue taking their regular classes alongside everyone at the studio, and add Saturday company rehearsals, performances, and special enrichment opportunities throughout the season. Kula is a wonderful alternative for dancers who are less interested in the competition scene, but are interested in developing strong technique, artistry, creativity, and meaningful performance experiences. Throughout the year, dancers will: 🌱 Learn choreography in a variety of styles 🌱 Build a growing repertoire of performance pieces so we’re always ready for exciting opportunities 🌱 Work with guest choreographers and participate in master classes 🌱 Perform throughout the community and at special events 🌱 Grow as artists, teammates, and leaders Whether your dancer dreams of dancing in college, performing professionally, or simply wants to dive deeper into something they love, Kula is designed to help them flourish. And while we’ll work hard, we also want this to be joyful, collaborative, creative, and encouraging. A place where dancers feel like they belong to something bigger than themselves. At this time, there are no auditions. We’re simply looking for dancers who are excited and ready to make the commitment. “Turns out - the best way to dance through life is together” Dear Nutmeg’s Families, As we wrap up Think Pink 2026, we just want to say one last thing… thank you. 💗 This weekend was such a beautiful reminder of what makes our Nutmeg’s community so special. When dancers, families, teachers, and volunteers all come together with a shared love of dance — and with our hearts united around something bigger than ourselves — it creates something so unforgettable. We are beyond proud of every dancer who stepped on stage this weekend. From our tiniest performers to our graduating seniors, to the amazing Moms and Dads (!) - each of you brought joy, passion, courage, artistry, and heart to the stage. Watching you shine was an absolute gift! To our Nutmeg’s families: thank you for your trust, your support, your encouragement, your carpools, your costume prep, your late nights, your cheering from the audience, and for sharing your incredible children with us. We know how much goes into making a weekend like this possible, and we are endlessly grateful. This year’s performance carried such a meaningful message, and we are so proud to have honored the strength, resilience, and courage of the incredible women who inspired Think Pink. The costumes, the lights, the applause…we love all the fun things that make showtime so exhilarating. But when you dance for a deeper meaning? When the feeling comes from deep down in your belly — from a place of love, admiration, and support…when your movement is inspired by the grace and strength of the women in your community? There is nothing more powerful than that. 🎀 This year, Think Pink was inspired by three incredible women in our studio community — women who have faced life with extraordinary bravery, strength, resilience, and positivity. Their stories have shaped the heart of this show in ways words can’t fully capture. As our dancers take the stage this weekend, we hope they carry more than choreography with them. We hope they carry the reminder that true strength looks like showing up, lifting others up, and continuing to shine through life’s hardest seasons. To the women who inspired this year’s production: thank you. This year’s show is extra special for so many reasons… but at the heart of it all is the beautiful young woman on our poster (artwork lovingly designed by the brilliant @4_darlene !) Kelly faced her triple negative breast cancer diagnosis at just 22 years old with grace, determination, and awe-inspiring strength. Our real-life Elle Woods—but better. 🩷💪🏽 There is no better role model for our dancers—and no more meaningful reason to celebrate, to move, and to dance. This year’s show is inspired by and dedicated to Kelly, along with two additional incredible women in our Nutmeg’s family—Lindsay Sessions and Chelsea Norrie—who have navigated, and are navigating, this journey. We dance for them all! 💛 Join us for a show set to music by and about strong women—brought to life by the next generation of them (and some really cool dudes, too 😉) We’ll also be donating a portion of the proceeds to the @tnbcfoundation in their honor—supporting an organization that showed up when the women we love needed it most. We are beyond excited to share that Katie Daye will be the Director of our Summer 2026 Musical Theatre Intensive! Katie is a multidisciplinary teaching artist based in NYC, and she’s so excited to be coming back home to Nutmeg’s for the Musical Theater Intensive this year! Katie graduated from the Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theater and an emphasis in Collaborative and Devised Theater. She’s worked as a regional theatre performer throughout the New England area acting in plays and musicals, and has a soft spot for studying, teaching, and performing Shakespeare. She can’t wait to be “Dancing Through Life” in “The Room Where It Happens” this summer teaching at the very studio where she fell in love with performing! See you in July, where we’ll be singing, dancing, acting, and “All That Jazz!” ;) Our Summer MT Intensive runs from July 20-24, from 10 am-3 pm. We welcome performers of all levels, ages 10-18! The finale is the very last dance of the show, and while we can’t tell you what we’re doing (it’s always a surprise ;) We CAN tell you that it will be upbeat, high energy, and FUN! The best part of the finale is that so many studio dancers of different ages get to come together, create a fabulous dance, bond, and have a blast. Your dancer will leave with new friends and treasured memories. Because of the limited rehearsal time, we do ask that dancers that sign up attend at least 2 of the rehearsals, and if they need to miss a rehearsal, we ask that they catch up by video (we will post practice videos) or by learning from a friend. Ayy!!! We are SO excited to welcome @therosannak back to Nutmeg’s for a Street Jazz Pop-Up class TOMORROW at 7 pm! 🤗 This is an open level class, for ages 13-18. This class is open to all dancers from all studios! (If you are in Advanced Modern or Commercial Hip Hop no need to sign up - you’re already in!) Rosanna attended the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, and after graduating jumped into her professional dance journey and developed a passion for her community. She has choreographed for numerous competitive dance teams across CT and the northeast. Rosanna’s commercial dance experience began with DFX Entertainment. Through DFX, she performed in various traveling productions as Dance Captain such as “Echoes of Sinatra” and Joby Rogers’ the Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience. Rosanna also spent a number of years working at Mohegan Sun Arena, stage managing and assisting the Game Entertainment & Presentation team. She simultaneously danced for the WNBA Connecticut Sun, which the arena houses until she relocated to New York City to dance for the NBA Brooklynettes dance team. Rosanna keeps her love for her home community alive by hosting live events such as the annual Small State Great Beer festival in Hartford, CT and the CPTV show “The Parkville Sessions”. She is the Vice President and a Resident Artist with the Hartford Dance Collective, and the Co-Director of the Dance Compnay at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Rosanna has been fortunate enough to work with artists including BLACKPINK at the 2022 MTV VMAs, Alyson Stoner, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, Rakim, Lion Babe, Saint John, Pretty Poison, Clinton Sparks and New Kids on the Block.
